Lifeboat battery is the part of electric system which is the main item in during lifeboat inspection because it concerns whether the lighting system or starting system can be operate well. BIG TBS-BA is made and designed by Battery analyzer from Taiwan and applied in lifeboat inspection. The equipment improves the service of lifeboat inspection to be more scientific with real data.

Why do we check the lifeboat battery?

The lifeboat engine is supposed to start within 15 seconds in any kind of circumstances. If the engine fails to start due to the poor battery condition, the reason would be neither battery problem or charge system problem. Sometimes the battery is healthy but fail to start because of the charge system. BIG TBS-BA (Battery analyzer) would be the best helper to check the battery condition easily.

 

To measure the battery voltage

For check the supply of voltage output.

To measure the CCA number

For check the current of cold starting. (CCA Cold Cranking Amp) number is also the manufacturers’ criteria for testing the battery.

The current of load discharge for 30 seconds in -18℃ condition, which means the higher number of CCA can provide more cold starting current for lifeboat engine.

On the contrary, the older lifeboat engine would be found hard to start.

To measure the electric resistance

The aged battery plate group would be degenerated and have more electric resistance. BIG TBS-BA is able to measure the battery health so that we can analyze the above-mentioned data to check the battery is in the good condition. And make suggestion for the ship owner to replace the battery when the health is lower than 45%.
